Survey on new wayfinding artwork for Colchester

Survey on new wayfinding artwork for Colchester

Our Colchester Business Improvement District (the BID) and Colchester Borough Council have been working on a range of projects to improve Colchester’s town centre, to help independent local businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of these projects are now being put in place and the BID is asking Colchester residents and businesses for their views on new wayfinding artwork by local sculptor Nicola Burrell.

The artwork will sit above the junction of Short Wyre Street and Queen Street/St Botolphs Street in the town centre. This will help visitors navigate a route through the town as well as create distinctive landmarks with a uniquely Colchester identity. Other key landmarks in the town, the Mercury Theatre, Jumbo, Colchester Castle and firstsite, all of which are depicted on the new Colchester gift card, can easily be walked to from either side of the artwork.

The online survey is open from today 14 October 2021 to 28 October 2021. It only takes a few moments to complete. Please share with any Colchester-based connections you have for them to have their say…

The project is being managed by Colchester based architecture practice HAT Projects who are also responsible for the forthcoming transformation of St Nicholas Square. See here for more information on the recommended “Indies” Route projects…
