An evolution in sustainable travel

An evolution in sustainable travel

Investing in active and sustainable travel methods is a key solution in supporting safer, greener, and healthier travel movements in our counties. Therefore, Essex County Council (ECC) have set up the Smarter Travel for Essex Network (STEN), designed to bring together organisations with over 50 employees, to collectively promote active and sustainable travel.

The network takes a lead on trying to reduce traffic congestion across the county by promoting more environmentally friendly, travel alternatives to Essex citizens. The network is designed to achieve this through helping businesses prepare and implement effective travel plans which promote walking, cycling, public transport, car sharing and the use of electric vehicles. The overall aim is to encourage a shift in travel behaviour by giving people better choices when it comes to travelling in and around the county.

With many employers now delivering their core services from home, the future of transport could be very different to what we’ve all been used to. Now is the time to be bold and create a new blueprint for the way we travel, helping to create the vision of a safer, greener, healthier county.
