Agriculture and Estates solicitor returns to Essex law firm after 12 years

Birkett Long has recruited a new solicitor into its Agriculture and Estates team.

Sarah Rider completed her training contract at Birkett Long 12 years ago and now re-joins the firm into the Agriculture and Estates team. Sarah joins the business from a global law firm and will be working on a wide range of legal matters for farming and agricultural clients but specialising in wills, trusts and probate, administration of estates, tax and estate planning, and setting up and administering trusts.

Sarah went to the University of Leicester where she studied German and Italian, returning to the university as a mature student (albeit a young one!) to do the Graduate Diploma in Law. She completed her Legal Practice Course in Chelmsford and a secured a training contract with Birkett Long in 2007. She completed seats in the Divorce and Family team, Wills, Trusts and Probate team, Dispute Resolution team and the Commercial and Corporate Finance team.

Sarah has now been qualified for 12 years but prior to qualification she worked delivering training to local authorities and within the NHS before working as a paralegal at a local law firm in commercial property and plot sales.

With a wealth of general legal experience and client skills, Sarah has a genuine desire to provide the best legal service and client care experience to all clients, whoever they are and whatever they require help with.

On her reasons for re-joining the firm Sarah said: “I enjoyed my time with Birkett Long doing my training contact immensely. I worked with, and learnt from, some hugely knowledgeable and inspirational legal experts and fantastic support staff. I felt part of a family where every team member was valued and appreciated – something I greatly missed working at other firms. Although I moved on from Birkett Long to do litigation work, I always knew that private client work was what I really wanted to do and so, when the opportunity arose to do this kind of work, at a firm I already knew I’d love working at, I couldn’t pass it by. It’s an innovative and growing firm but has managed to retain the friendly family feel and I couldn’t be happier to be part of the Birkett Long team again.”

Outside of work, Sarah is a busy mum with two young boys and, when she’s not being a taxi service, loves baking with the children and long family walks with their black Labrador, Barney.

Sarah is a school governor at The Flitch Green Academy and is also on the Parent Teacher Association so is active in fundraising for the school and community.
